Mrs. Armstrong's Newsletter This Week in Kindergarten
March 26-30
Monday
Today started with worship and sharing time. Our letter this week is X so we learned the X song, X motion and thought of words that start with X or have an X in them which we then wrote in our ABC books. For language arts, we learned The Umbrella poem and read it with a partner. After journal time, we worked on the cow page for our farm book. For Bible, we sang, practiced our memory verse, read the My Bible Friends story of Zacchaeus and played the friendship bridge game.
Tuesday
Today we read the X book and brainstormed more X words. Today is Jackie’s 6th birthday so we made her a birthday book. After recess and music, we had calendar time and then language arts. During language arts, we learned our new sight word poem for the word “do.” We wrote the word “do” in the blank spaces and read the poem with a partner. After journal writing, we worked on the hen page of our barn book. During Bible, we wrapped up our study of Jesus as a friend by making Let’s Be Friends cards.
Wednesday
Today we had worship and then we practiced writing our numbers to 100. For phonics, we read our X words and then practiced writing our very best X’s. After lunch and recess, we had journal writing time and book club reading. We continued our farm theme by reading several books about farms and making the sheep page for our barn book. For Bible, we practiced our memory verse, sang several worship songs and read a devotional. Our day ended with free choice centers.
Thursday
Today we had worship and then we made our X folded books. The students wrote X words in their book and illustrated them. After music, we left for our field trip to the Candler farm. The students had a wonderful time. When we arrived, we ate our lunch on the patio. After lunch, we saw chickens and found eggs they’d laid in various places. Then we visited Norman the horse and everyone had the opportunity to feed him a carrot. After visiting the animals, Mr. Candler led us in some campfire songs while he played the guitar. Our trip ended with a soccer show put on by Joe, the dog. Upon our return to school, we wrote thank you letters to Mr. Candler. For Bible, we are beginning to learn about the Last Supper.
Friday
Today we had an all-school assembly. We sang songs, heard a story about the power of prayer and then listened to a presentation from the Astronomical Society about the planets. The students did an excellent job listening to a fairly long presentation! After recess, we finished our Last Supper pictures and our morning worksheet. We then began making our March Lion and Lamb plates. We talked about why we say “March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb” and now we are making plates with a lion face on one side and a lamb face on the other. The day ended with show and tell and treasure chest time.
